Standard Penalty:
(Applies to ALL violations listed below.)
Fine of up to $500.00 and/or jail up to six months.

Uncovered Trucks
Unlawful to operate vehicle on streets unless vehicle is so constructed so as to prevent the load from dropping, sifting, leaking or spilling. State Code 32-5-76; City Code 20-30 and 20-68; City Ordinance 84-331.
Littering
Unlawful to knowingly deposit litter on public or private properly without permission, or to negligently deposit glass or other such dangerous object on highway. State Code 13A-7-29; Section 20-22(a) of City Ordinance 88-419.
Junk and Litter
Unlawful to store inoperable vehicles, appliances, appliance parts, scrap wood, metal or other debris, unless they are stored in an enclosed, covered structure so as not to be viewable form the street or any other property. Violators are issued a 30-day notice. City Ordinance 70-84.
Right-of-Way
It is the duty of the person in charge to sweep or clean right-of-way or alley adjacent to lot in residential or commercial area. Section 20-262(c) of City Ordinance 88-419 and 86-294.
Obstructing Water Flow
Unlawful to sweep or deposit in street, gutter or ditch any material tending to impede flow of water or obstruct traffic. City Code Section 20-263 and 20-264.
Handbills
Unlawful to place handbills on motor vehicles located on public property. Unlawful to place handbills on private property unless transmitted directly to person or placed to prevent it from being scattered by elements. Unlawful to be in or adjacent to road to solicit, sell or hand out materials to occupants of motor vehicles. City Ordinance 88-419, Section 20-265; City Code Section 14-9.
Containers
Waste must be placed in containers as follows: 1. Garbage can(s) with handles, tapered sides 2. Plastic or paper container(s) 3. Container(s) used on commercial property must be an approved receptacle. All containers must be placed adjacent to street or alley no earlier than sundown on day preceding collection, and removed the day of collection. City Code Section 20-284 and 20-285; City Ordinance 88-419.
Yard Waste
Leaves and grass clippings must be placed in containers during the months of April through September. During October through March leaves and grass clippings may be placed in loose piles adjacent to street, and in a manner so as not to obstruct flow of water. City Ordinance 88-419, Section 20-275.
Dumping Waste
Unlawful to dump waste at any location other than Sanitary Landfill on Johnson Road. Waste may not be dumped at landfill except during hours of operation. City Ordinance 84-331; 88-419, Section 20-304(b).
Motor Vehicles
Inoperable vehicles on public street may be posted with a 48-hour notice, after which the vehicle may be removed and impounded. City Ordinance 85-206 and 74-197.
Grass and Weeds
Unlawful to allow grass and weeds on lot to become overgrown and injurious to health or safety or to exceed 12 inches in height. Violators maybe be charged with cost of cutting. City Ordinance 86-294.
